Surface Studio connt run Corel Draw products

I have been trying to load Corel Draw x8 products onto my new surface studio for a couple of weeks. The install and authorization works but on startup a windows popup reports "program has stopped running" before it loads up. All x8 products give the same result.

I have reinstalled several times. I have been working with Corel Techs that have had me load every kind of updates, local and downloaded installs, erasing temp files, verifying updated drivers and so far there is no fix.

The x8 product works fine on my old surface pro tablet (original surface model).

I talked today with another Surface Studio owner having identical problems. I'm hoping that Adobe is not the only graphics options that is compatible with this new device.

Has any other Surface Studio owner been able to load Corel successfully?

    here is a temporary link to everyone who encounters the problem. In the next few

    days, I will replace this with a link to the detailed Knowledge Base article,

    but wanted to get this in your hands as quickly as possible that doesn't require

    to change the color profiles on the Surface Studio.

    This is a new installer of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X8 that resolves the crash

    at launch on the Microsoft Surface Studio. If you have previously installed X8

    on the computer, you will need to first uninstall it and download the updated

    version. Here are the detailed instructions:

    •While online and connected to the internet, uninstall CorelDRAW Graphics Suite

    X8 and all components, including Corel Graphics – Windows Shell Extension.

    Remember to take note of the email address and password used to sign in with

    this installation, along with the serial number, if applicable.

    1.In Windows Control Panel, click Uninstall a program.

    2.Double-click Corel Graphics – Windows Shell Extension on the Uninstall or

    change a program page.

    3.Click Yes to uninstall

    4.Once complete, double-click CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X8, and click Remove to

    uninstall.  It is recommended that user files also be uninstalled. To remove

    user files, enable the Remove User Files checkbox under the Remove option.

    •Download and run the updated installer of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X8 from

    here.

    •At the end of the installation process, when the sign-in dialog appears, please

    enter the credentials that were used with the previous installation of the

    trial, perpetual version (full or upgrade) or subscription. It is important to

    use the same credentials that are already associated with the

    purchase/subscription.

    OK, Corel has created a new installation file that has solved the conflict. If you are looking to load Corel Software on a Surface Studio device you will need to use the new installer. The link can be found in this thread on the Corel Community forum:

    You can add me to the list. I've been a Corel user since version 3. I've most recently used versions 12 and X7 on my Surface Pro 2, 3, and 4 without any issues. Recently bought a top of the line Surface Studio (I7, 32GB, 2TB), specifically with the plan to use CorelDraw. Tried X7, which installed fine, but wouldn't run. Decided to purchase X8, which also installs and validates just fine, but when trying to run the program, I get the same errors everyone else is getting. 

    I've been going back and forth with Corel support techs for about a month now, and we've run the gamut of potential solutions, including (not necessarily in this order):

    • uninstall/reinstall CorelDraw Suite
    • delete temp files
    • uninstall Visual C++ Redistributable (reinstalling Corel, then reinstall Visual C++ Redistributable)
    • delete/recreate CorelDraw's workspace
    • download CorelDraw Hotfix/service pack
    • create new user accounts and reinstall CorelDraw Suite

    The tech asked me to send reports from WinAudit and MSinfo32 on two separate occasions, but those apparently yielded no clues. I've even reinstalled Windows 10 itself on 2 separate occasions, followed by installing only CorelDraw X8 to ensure there were no issues with conflicting software installations. Nothing has worked. 

    I hate to think I spent $4500 on a new computer, only to not be able to run the very software I bought the computer for. 

    The fact that Corel runs fine on other Surface products makes me wonder if the problem might be related to a driver for hardware which is specific to the Surface Studio. It seems that might be the most likely reason for any differences between the Windows installations on the Surface Studio and the Surface Pro/Surface Book.

    welcome to our very exclusive club: you make 5 that i know of. this thread has identified what i think is the problem is. The library ucrtbase.dll that microsoft ships in the surface studio device is a newer version number than on all the other surface devices that run corel without issue, as you can attest.

    the problem requires a patch from either corel or microsoft. we cant do anything ourselves as you have discovered. we have been dangling for so long due to a number of circumstances. Corel has outsourced it's tech support and so we all got to go through the generic approach to known updates and reinstalls. when all that failed we got forwarded to some real corel people who it appears spent much of late december and early january on holiday. then, of course, there was a problem that the surface studio wasn't shipping to canada and corel had no test device. hmm, microsoft gold partner certified...

    word has it though that they are now hot on the problem and i got a message wednesday that they expect a new installer to be available next week after it passes qc testing.

    i'll post anything on the fix here as soon as i get something
