Surface Studio connt run Corel Draw products

I have been trying to load Corel Draw x8 products onto my new surface studio for a couple of weeks. The install and authorization works but on startup a windows popup reports "program has stopped running" before it loads up. All x8 products give the same result.

I have reinstalled several times. I have been working with Corel Techs that have had me load every kind of updates, local and downloaded installs, erasing temp files, verifying updated drivers and so far there is no fix.

The x8 product works fine on my old surface pro tablet (original surface model).

I talked today with another Surface Studio owner having identical problems. I'm hoping that Adobe is not the only graphics options that is compatible with this new device.

Has any other Surface Studio owner been able to load Corel successfully?

    "Hello all,

here is a temporary link to everyone who encounters the problem. In the next few

days, I will replace this with a link to the detailed Knowledge Base article,

but wanted to get this in your hands as quickly as possible that doesn't require

to change the color profiles on the Surface Studio.

This is a new installer of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X8 that resolves the crash

at launch on the Microsoft Surface Studio. If you have previously installed X8

on the computer, you will need to first uninstall it and download the updated

version. Here are the detailed instructions:

•While online and connected to the internet, uninstall CorelDRAW Graphics Suite

X8 and all components, including Corel Graphics – Windows Shell Extension.

Remember to take note of the email address and password used to sign in with

this installation, along with the serial number, if applicable.

1.In Windows Control Panel, click Uninstall a program.

2.Double-click Corel Graphics – Windows Shell Extension on the Uninstall or

    change a program page.

    3.Click Yes to uninstall

4.Once complete, double-click CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X8, and click Remove to

uninstall.  It is recommended that user files also be uninstalled. To remove

user files, enable the Remove User Files checkbox under the Remove option.

•Download and run the updated installer of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X8 from

    here.

•At the end of the installation process, when the sign-in dialog appears, please

enter the credentials that were used with the previous installation of the

trial, perpetual version (full or upgrade) or subscription. It is important to

use the same credentials that are already associated with the

    purchase/subscription.

    Happy CorelDRAWing!

OK, Corel has created a new installation file that has solved the conflict. If you are looking to load Corel Software on a Surface Studio device you will need to use the new installer. The link can be found in this thread on the Corel Community forum:

In this case it is not just installing the dll file but the runtime libraries for the older versions of Visual C++.  Each version goes into a separate folder and are not blended together.  A little bit like what they do with .NET and its various versions.

In my case, I not only downloaded the older installation but they also had a patch that went along with it.

The program is most likely looking for that particular dll file in a specific folder within the Programs folder which would be the version number of the C++ runtime system.  If you look in that folder, you may see multiple versions of a same program and that is what is happening.  Corel is looking for an older compiler, thus, when executing the installer/program, it is looking for a specific folder that contains that dll and cannot find it.  Even though a version of that dll file is in a different folder.

If you try it, you can always uninstall it if it doesn't work.  In my case, it fixed the problem with the KmyMoney program (personal finance program) for Windows and is working perfect now.  Before, it would crash much like what you described with Corel in trying to install.

Probably worth a shot, it is up to you.  If it does work and you have other older programs, it may 'fix' any problems they would encounter as well.  With this method, there is no registry patching to perform.  It does not corrupt the system either and it is removable if it doesn't work.

I have found four new owners of the Surface Studio computer that are having the same issue reported here. I can find no one that has been successful running the Corel graphics suite on a Surface Studio machine. We have all tried the suggestions to self troubleshoot the problem with no positive results and some of us have had remote access sessions with low level Corel Techs with no positive results.

It looks like the root of the problem has been discovered:

Michaeleeee writes the following but attempts to follow the suggestions by James Vinyard for a self fix to this have not worked. We are not sure where to turn at this point.

On a Windows10 system that can start CorelDraw, it has a ucrtbase.dll of version# 10.0.10240.16384, same as what's shown on the website James' link pointing to. On the Surface Studio running Windows10, it is version 10.0.14393.0 and dated 7/16/2016 4:42AM, which is after release of X8 and perhaps after the release of Update1 from Corel. My view is that Microsoft made changes to the dll for new machine and Corel developers did not patch their codes to keep up before advertising it for use on the new machine...

I have not been successful in running CorelDrawGraphicsSuiteX8.

Each Failed starting leaves an Application Error entry in the EnvetLog, EventViewer/WindowsLog/Application.

In my case, it shows the Exception Code: 0xc0000409 and the Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\System32\urctbase.dll

I haven't been able to find an authoritative/definitive definition/fix of the code. The problem is probably contributed by both Windows10 and Corel developers. I got the Surface Studio so I can use CorelDraw software in a more natural way...
