It seems that your Epson XP-970 printer is defaulting to the CD tray instead of the paper tray when printing labels. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

    1. Select the Correct Tray: When you go to print, make sure to check the print settings in the print dialog. Look for an option to select the paper source and ensure that the correct tray (the paper tray) is chosen instead of the CD tray.
    2. Update Printer Drivers: Ensure that your printer drivers are up-to-date. You can visit the Epson website to download the latest drivers for your XP-970 model.
    3. Reinstall the Printer: If the problem continues, you might want to remove the printer from your computer and then reinstall it. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, remove your printer, and then add it back.
    4. Check Document Settings: Verify that the label document settings in Microsoft Word are correctly configured for the type of labels you are printing. Ensure that the paper size and type match the settings in your printer.
    5. Test Print: After making these adjustments, try printing a test page to see if the printer now uses the correct tray.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider consulting the printer's manual or contacting Epson support for further assistance.

Thanks for sharing the details, Jose! Try to remove CD/DVD Media Type Trigger in Word

Word labels sometimes silently set the media type to CD/DVD, which forces the XP-970 into CD tray mode.

    Do this:

    • Open your label document in Word
    • Go to Layout → Size → More Paper Sizes
    • Set:
      Paper size: Letter (8.5 x 11)
    • Click Paper Source tab
    • For First page and Other pages, set:
      Default tray (Auto Select)
    • Click OK
    • Save the document
    • Close Word completely
    • Reopen Word → reopen the document → print again

This resets the hidden CD/DVD media flag. If the problem will persist, disable CD/DVD Support at the Driver Level

This prevents any app from selecting the CD tray.

    • Open Control Panel
    • Go to Devices and Printers
    • Right-click Epson XP-970 → Printer Properties
    • Go to Device Settings
    • Find CD/DVD Tray or CD/DVD Printing
    • Set it to:
      Disabled
    • Click Apply → OK
    • Restart Word and print again

See if these help. If you need further assistance just let me know.

    Best regards,

    Kimberly
