No Agent option in Azure Foundry

I’d like to create an agent in Azure Foundry AI, but the problem is that there’s no option for agents anywhere in our dashboard.

Does anyone know how I can enable or find this option, whether it’s something in our subscription that needs to be updated or a permissions issue?

Hello , Welcome to MS Q&A

    1. Create the Correct Foundry Resource & Project
      • In Azure AI Studio, create a new Azure AI Foundry resource and then create a Project.
      • Deploy a supported model (e.g., gpt-4o or gpt-4o-mini). The Agents Playground will prompt model deployment if missing.
    2. Ensure Proper RBAC Permissions (Most Common Issue) To see and use the Agents tab, the user/service principal must have the right roles at the correct scope:
      • Azure AI Account Owner – required to create and manage Foundry accounts/projects.
      • RBAC Administrator / Owner – required to assign roles on dependent resources (Storage, Search, Cosmos DB).
      • Azure AI User – required to create and edit agents.
      • Azure AI Developer – sometimes needed for specific agent actions.
Assign roles at the Project or Resource Group level to avoid scope mismatches.
    3. Verify Region & Model Availability
      • Agents require supported models and regions.
      • Some tools (like File Search, Search integrations) may not appear if the region does not support them.
      • If features are missing or you see “Agents unavailable in this region,” try deploying in a region like East US, where agent support is fully available.

pls check and let us know

    Thanks

    Deepanshu

    Hi Pepijn

I agree with pointers from Deepanshu.

Please check if you have created resources in supported region and have added Azure Account Owner role on resources.

I am also assuming that you are not testing in New Foundry UI.

You can sign in to Microsoft Foundry. Make sure the New Foundry toggle is off. Foundry (classic).

    Follow up query

    1. Is it a Hub based project or AI foundry project.
    2. Could you share the region in usage here.
    3. Kind of subscription - Is it any Visual studio subscription.

    Thank you
