Surface book wifi drops when lid is fully closed

Hi,

I'm using surface book with a docking station.

When the lid is closed, it's set to 'do nothing' so that I can work with my external monitors.

However, when I close the lid fully, wifi gets lost most of the times, if not really slow.

When the lid is open by a slightest amount, wifi works well, so I know that it's not the metal casing problem.

I tried all options discussed, including troubleshooting both the internet and power settings, unchecking the "let computer turn this device...", updating drivers and other registry-related solutions.

Nothing works, and the problem persists only when the lid is fully closed.

Please help.

Thanks,

K

    Hello,

For us to help you resolve the situation wherein the WiFi connection  drops when the lid is closed, can you tell us if you already checked the setting for Lid close action. If not ,here's how:

    1. In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel, and then select Control Panel.
    2. Choose Hardware and Sound.
    3. Click Power Options.
    4. Under Selected plan, click Change plan settings.
    5. Then click Change advanced power settings and a small window will open.
    • Inside the small window, expand Power buttons and lid.
    • and then expand Lid close action.

Under On battery and Plugged in, change it to "Do nothing".

Restart the device to make sure the changes take place (don't shutdown and reboot).

Reconnect the device to the docking station, then close the lid and check if the WiFi connection would behave the same way.

We'll wait for your reply so we can assist you further.

    Hi AJ,

Yes, I have done that from the beginning - otherwise I would not have been using the docking station.

    The problem still persists.

    Please advise.

    Thank you,

    K

Seeing that you already did troubleshooting on both the internet and power settings, as well as, unchecking the box for "let this computer, turn off this device to save power", updating drivers and other registry-related solutions. Including our advice about the Power Options, we recommend that you contact our Support team for further assistance.

    Thank you.
